(Nvidia 295 GTX) Okay... uhm, i have decided to go for that card, since i'm not much into Crossfire with ATI, and the other way around 2 expensive to SLI with Nvidia :)

And the card alone outsmarts both 4870x2 and 4890x2 :)  except if u use 2xxx resolution, which i don't...

The problem for me is to decide which "model" of the Nvidia 295 GTX i should get... which retailer...

There must be a difference? I lined them after price, 1 = cheapest. then the price's going up.

Is there any difference on the cards? i did think of Asus, since i know them.. and XFX.. but they're like

(1) Gainward GTX295 (1.792 GB)

(2) Colorful Technology GeForce GTX 295 (Detailsalg) (1792 MB)

(3) Club 3D GTX 295 (1.75 GB)

(4) ASUS ENGTX295/2DI/1792MD3 (1.75 GB)

(5) Inno3D GeForce GTX 295 Platinum Edition (Detailsalg) (1792 MB)

(6) MSI N295GTX-2D1792 (1.75 GB)

(7) ZOTAC GeForce GTX 295 (1.792 GB)

The same card actually Varies like 100 $ :S

Like the highest is about.. 640$ or so... and the cheapest 545 $ and that's rather confusing... I doubt the price's all?

1) dual 4890's beat the GTX 295.

2) what resolution do you use? even at 1920x1200 a GTX 295 is not really needed.

3) none of those, get an EVGA or BFG one instead.
August 11, 2009 6:12:21 PM

Ehm, All benchmarks prove that 295's beat 4890 :)  except in 1... all game scores, farcry/crysis... all the big titles have a much larger number than those 2... + they require a HUGE Psu :p

4890 is pretty simliar to.. 275 from Nvidia :)

^ not dual 4890's versus a single GTX 295, the 4890's wins by Miles.

The GTX 295 is two GTX 275 GPU's with a lowered clock stuck on one PCB, and it turns out internal SLI isn't as good as external SLI. (dual GTX 275's beat the GTX 295) Also AMD's CF drivers are quite a bit better than Nvidia's SLI drivers.

And because of the drivers the 4890's are equal to GTX 285's in SLI in most games, and beats them in others.

Hm, do you have some links, so i can check for myself o:?

Cuz all i've seen compare 2x 4890's with Nvidias 295... is below when it's around 1920/1200 screen resolution
August 11, 2009 6:50:03 PM

link to review

from what that says, the 4890 CF setup beats the GTX 295 where the human eye can see that many fps. (anywhere from 24fps to 90fps supposedly.)
August 11, 2009 6:55:56 PM

Ofc, but 2 x 4890 is the same price as 1 295.. so that's not odd, they'd win.. since that'd be like what.. 4 Gpus :p ?
August 11, 2009 7:00:24 PM

^ $200 x2 = $400, not $500.

and it's 2 GPU's, not 4 since there is no 4890 X2.

edit: also, on this kind of graphics budget, it would make a bit more sense to get dual 5870/90's when they come out, but that would depend on your current setup, so could you list the CPU, mobo, monitor and PSU
August 11, 2009 7:03:28 PM

Well i was talkin' bout Nvidia 295 in SLI, 2 of those cards... aint they like... 2 x 275s in 1? which means 1 295 has 2 GPUs already, i could be mistaken..

And yeah, but i've just heard so much bullshit bout' ATI lately, that i'm not sure wether to get the new Vapor-X 4890 (2Gig) card x 2... or the 295 from Asus... both setups will be extremely nice... :(
August 11, 2009 7:08:50 PM

^ the 2gig card isn't worth it, just get a 1GB card for $200.

and if you're down to GTX 295 or dual 4890's, dual cards look better in the case and they perform better.

although the 5870 setup would beat both of those by a fair margin for about $500-600, while releasing less heat, using less power and gaining DX11.
August 11, 2009 7:08:51 PM

Well those cards im looking at.. is 1.750 Danish krs. pr card... which is bout.. ehm 318 $ bucks for 1 and i want 2? and Nvidia 295 GTX = 636$ :)

So it's a price differ.. of like... 0? xD

You prolly look at the old 4890... which's bout 254 pr card...

In Denmark Hardware's rather expensive.
August 11, 2009 7:10:28 PM

IS there even a 5870 out yet o_o?
August 11, 2009 7:12:55 PM

Well, if i'm going for 4890s setup... it's bout' the same price anyhow? ... 254 is like the cheapest o; and i can get a 295 for the same as 2 of them... o: that's why im in doubt, so how and why do u think it's a waste of money?
August 11, 2009 7:14:12 PM

254$*
August 11, 2009 7:42:13 PM

the 4890's beat the 295, and list your PC, because they both might be an absolute waste of money.

and the 5870 comes out late September.

I do not like to see the statement ‘wins by Miles’ when the performance difference is less than 10% :fou:  :fou:  :fou:
August 11, 2009 7:49:18 PM

YEah i want to see the COMPLETE SYSTEM SPEC

EDIT : the CF HD4890 can take a good lead if you have a I7 platform.

How exactly is it the same price?

GTX 295 - 499.99
HD 4890 - 199.99

199 X 2 = 399.98

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

In Denmark they do not cost 200 :)  but 254, depending on which 1 of them i'm going for...

Well my specc's not that impressive atm:

Q6600 (2.4Ghz Dual core)
2x2 Gigs DDR2 800 @ 1000 of ram, since i'm not using D10 and Vista, waiting for W7 in october, i will get 8gigs tho...
Asus Motherboard, P5K SE.
PSU, 750W
750Gb HD.

And then which should i get? :)
August 11, 2009 8:22:18 PM

I ofc meant Quad core....
August 11, 2009 8:24:27 PM

I would get an X48 mobo while they're cheap, along with a Corsair H50.

then chuck in the two 4890's or 5870's, overclock the processor to 3.6GHz+, then off you go.

and what make is your PSU?
August 11, 2009 8:28:18 PM

LC Power Metatron PROPHECY LC8750 V2.2 750w :)

Hm, it's getting expensive all the sudden :p  just bought the Psu... for like 130$ or so... then 2 x 4890 will be... approximately 500 bucks? and a new Mobo will be another what :p ?
August 11, 2009 8:30:31 PM

That's like... 1000$ Total with the extra pieces u had in mind or? :p
August 11, 2009 8:32:29 PM

get only ONE HD4890 and OC this quad ... THATS ALL what you "really" need.
August 11, 2009 8:34:09 PM

My Mobo will be able to run 2x right? if i decide to do the "overkill" :p
August 11, 2009 8:35:10 PM

Seems to be atleast 2 extra slots availabel in it...

This mobo have the p35 that don’t support CF or SLI

So you cannot get a two 4890's but you can get a GTX295 or a 4870x2 and of course you have to OC you q6600.

What resolution do you use?

An other alternative is to wait for the new DX11 cards(comes out late this year) and upgrade at the same time to i7 + x58 + DDR3 + the new DX11 cards.
August 12, 2009 10:06:23 AM

I use 1920/1200 usually, otherwise it gets too small... what do you think i'd cost to upgrade my Mobo to another, more suitable 1? a better.. but not an overpriced 1 :)

Yeah i do realise that'd be a good idea to wait for those, but... they're out like.. late september, and all the game's i've been waiting for... is out like... in 2 weeks or so :p  ... besides, it's unlike they even hit the market late september, since Windows 7 etc, has been pushed almost to late october... and i really do miss a great graphic card :s i hate playing on medium :s

Besides... i've absolutely no idea how to overclock anything... havn't even done it once :)  so that'd be kinda risky for me? I'm not really much into computer... i mean, i do like gaming etc, but all the technical stuff's not really my speciality...

wouldn't my pc overheat? Got a pretty good cab for cooling (Extreme Engine 3T) but as said, i have no idea how to do it...
August 12, 2009 12:24:15 PM

Jeez, i've found a guide to do it... but it's so complicated... And it takes what... minimum 10 hours atleast with those stab testing programs it'll be running?

This guide's for 3.0 Ghz instead of 3.6 as Helloworld wanted me to go for :)

Even tho, For now i'll go with 1 x Nvidia 295 since my Mobo can't handle Crossfire, and a Corsair PSU with atleast 50 amp... 800W .. then i'll try to OC my cpu one of the upcomming days, with help from a friend of mine... suppose that'll do for most games at 1920/1200 resolution :p
August 12, 2009 12:40:19 PM

^ you can get 50A on 650w PSU's.

on the 295, try and get one of the EVGA CO-OP FTW models, since they're clocked at the same speed as GTX 285's and will no doubt go further.
August 12, 2009 9:44:22 PM

Yep, that's the 1 i bought already =)
