Old P4 can't keep up anymore, need advice on a 5200

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
ServicePack 3.0 32 bit

Pentium 4 2.80GHz

Mboard - SOYO 845PE/GE

2gigs RAM


Thinking of this as a cheap upgrade (using old Antec Case)
Note: I would like to try overclocking the 5200
Note2: I chose the 4850 but could go lower if needed (only game I "might" play is wwiionline)
Note3: Current use is radio/video feeds from internet, general surfing, live data feeds. Problem is P4 usage is way up and cannot open multiple windows anymore without a slowdown.

Please let me know what you think of this build. If possible, can this get any cheaper without giving up performance. Or, should I scrap the whole idea for something else. Thanks

The build looks pretty good. I would just suggest a couple minor changes.

The Antec EA500 is a nice PSU, but you could save a little money by going with something like this and still have plenty of power for your system:

MX-2 cools at least as well as Arctic Silver, is non-conductive, and has no cure time:

I don't know if you're interested since you said you're re-using an old case, but they currently have the Antec 300 with an Earthwatts 430W PSU for $89.99 at newegg with free shipping. It wouldn't add much to the price of the build and would mean you don't have to tear apart your existing computer. You might even be able to sell your existing computer as-is.

oops, can't do the case deal.

I forgot about the xfx 4850, it needs another pcie 6 pin plug. That's why I had to go with the earthwatts supply. I could go with another 4850 or lesser card but xfx has a good warranty and I like the rear heat exhaust on the card.

You'll be fine with the EA430 PSU included with the Antec 300 case. The description for the XFX 4850 says it has two 6-pin power connectors, but the picture only shows one. The picture of the GPU accessories also shows a 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI-E power adapter.

I only looked at the specs, not the pictures. I just assumed the other plug they had in the spec was for the fan.
