Thank you Sir !!! Was not easy to fit that window inside the molding, took alot of windex and patience to get it finished....
  3. Looks very well done and the molding is a good touch. Nice job =D

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but i noticed the fan controller on his 300, how well does that seem to work for him? I've been debating putting one in my CM690 (recently purchased)
  4. Thx!!!

Yea, to me its worth it 100%, the only issue here is that if you do decide to go with a fan controller make sure its a Scythe or Zalman...IMO the Scythe KM02-BK 5.25" is the best controller out. I normally use them to crank up the fan speed while gaming and lower fan speed when I am watching a movie or surfing the web. Keeps my temps low and the temp probes are fairly accurate (-1c most of the time). As far as your CM690 it will give it a nice touch and you wont have all your fans at 100% 24-7......

  5. Very impressive mod to the Antec 300. What are the rest of the specs of your nephews' system?

Lucky nephew... I just gave mine an old 7600GT so he can turn up COD4 at little on his Dell. I guess I'm a bad Uncle... :D
  6. Thanks for the info and the link OvrClkr! Good luck with your future prijects ; )
  7. Thanks....

At the moment he is running a Kuma 7750 overclocked to 3.1Ghz
    Asrock 780a Sli
    AC Freezer 64
    BFG GTS 250 (1GB)
    4GB OCZ 1066
    WD Cav. Black 640Gb
    Thermaltake TP 650w
    Scythe Kaze Master
    4 120mm Rosewill fans
    Techflex Blue and Red sleeving
Couple of 4 and 12 inch cold cathodes....

Almost identical to my AMD system......

Took him about 40 car washes and a lot of saving up.........
  8. Very solid build all around.... BUT of course you couldn't have set it up better than yours... of course :D
  9. Well i guess he wanted a flashier case and accents, and I told him that I would build him a gaming rig with most of my specs as long as he paid for all the hardware and took good care of it.. Now he is washing more cars than ever and wants another 250 and a 955...So I told him to work with what he has and later on when its time to upgrade we will order the rest of the parts....

What more can a 14 year old want? He only plays CoD4 and BF2 for now....

    I understand totally.

I'm getting ready to build my daughter a PC from spare parts from an old build. I think a 5 year old would be happy with 2x 9800GTX's, Thermaltake V1, MSI P7N Platinum 750i, Thermaltake M9 and I'm deciding on either a E8500 or Q9550 as the CPU. I'm going to set her up with the WD 640GB Black drive as well. I'll need to do some fancy cable mangement with the M9. I'll post pics once I get it going. I wish I had the talents to mod cases but I'm just good at building.
  12. Nice....she will be VERY happy with a setup like that.... When school starts she will tell her friends " My Rig will eat your Rig for lunch"!!!!!! lol......
  13. Yeah... She likes to play her Shoot's Game (quake3) all the time on my PC, plus the most graphic intense game ever...

    Hold for it...

    Candyland

    LOL :p
  14. WoW..... not many daughters have a dad that can give them a quality piece of hardware to play with....

    Thanks! :)

I figure there is nothing she can do playing on the PC that can't be fixed by me or by a "clean install". :D She just knows not to play around with the tower except to turn it on with our permission to do so.
  16. Yea, that's sweet......

On a side note how are your dual 260's holding up? Do you game or just have both cards for fun???

BTW you have a nice setup, I have an EVGA x58 LE paired with a GTX 275 and im in love with it...to be honest its to fast for my needs.....
  17. My two 260's are holding up very well. I haven't had issues with any game I have thrown at them. I game at 1920x1200 and run games on max settings. It KILLS Tiger Woods08 & COD4, which are what I play the most. I'm very happy!!

How is the EVGA X58 LE board? I like to recommend it in builds since to me it seems to be a great board and pretty much a "stock" version of the Classified.
  18. Nice, I love Tiger Woods08...pushing the mouse forward and making that HOLE IN ONE!!!....

As far as the LE I love it, its not the best for SLi but it is very stable and top notch if you pair it up with an EVGA GPU.....I like it due to the fact that it matches my Antec 902 black on black on the inside.... The mobo is really nice if you are going with a single GPU setup.. I am hoping that once the 300 series cards come out I will be able to purchase one and test it...... To this date i have had 0 issues with the LE... overclocks like a charm and temps never reach 59c all around.... Ambient in my room never exceeds 30c.....25c is the average.....

Jeez, a bit overkill, don't you think? I'd bet that thing is taxed about 25% max by the games she plays and sucks down probably 250W at idle. I know I'd take out one of the cards until it's warranted by usage. Lucky girl, I have a 5 year old computer and I'm a 26 year old professional.
  20. If the kid has GAME, it will not be overkill trust me.......

When i was 5, I got an ATARI 2600 for my B-DAY....2 months later I was a wiz at it and wanted the comodore 64...then it was the nintendo entertainment system, then then 3D0....years later I had the Genesis, super NES and so forth.....so overkill is not in my vocabulary.... I guess the better they got the more i wanted.....

Sure it is overkill... but I have the parts outside of a CPU, so I figure what the hell... Does me no good to keep the parts lying around or just putting one card and leaving another one out... I say... If you have them... use them...

I don't know if she's got game... but she enjoyes it, which is the most important part to me!! Plus, if I keep her interested, as she gets older, I can get her into building her own PC's and not being scared to work on a PC.
  22. I could not agree more, but I betcha this: remove one of those GPU's and she will be yelling out : DADDY!!!! what happend to the beautifull lines that I used to see?? Its not as nice as before!!! did you do something to my puter??? lol
  23. oh yeah, if you give her that machine to play with then take out a card, she will know!

Sound like OvrClkr's nephew AND Tecmo's daughter are lucky lucky.

I would really like to upgrade my CPU, but i am stuck with having to get a new MoBo too since it's only AM2 and not AM2+ one step at a time though.

Do you have a budget in mind? near future?
  25. OvrClkr, nice mod clean and professional. BTW nice system :P

Thank you sir, just trying to motivate more peeps to keep the modding alive..... [:lectrocrew:6]
  27. My budget just depends on how the summer goes for work really. I'm not planning on replacing the MoBo + CPU until maybe late October (basically when Win7 comes out).

If i was to do it today though, i would go with that combo Newegg had/has, the Asus MoBo + 730BE for around 200. Hopefully pricing and options will only get better as the year goes on though ; )

Everything i am doing now to my build is stuff that i can keep for a long, long time. The case, the fans, fan controller, etc.

I think i saw somewhere in a post on here (toms) that some MoBo's will support AM2+ processors even though the MoBo may say just AM2, is there any truth behind that?
  28. That is true BUT it is not worth it in the long run, and this works with some AM2 boards, not all (ddr2 controller will not function at 1066Mhz).... in the end its better to wait and buy something that will last you, as opposed to installing old hardware on current parts....IMO...

Save up as much as you can and buy something that will make you happy, you will not regret it later on down the road......
  29. Did you do some cable management in the case? How is the case for cable mangement? I got this Elite 335 case from Coolermaster a while ago and used it for my P4 rebuild. Sad thing is you can't hide wires behind the MoBo tray, I have to hide the wires behind the HDD and Optical drive bays LOL
  30. Yeah, i'm not in a huge rush. My pc does just fine for what i use it for. I'm interested to see where things goes in the next few months anyway.

I know intels i5 is due soon... amd doing anything other than the 965?

Using a 300, the cable management is not that bad, it just takes time.....much easier if you go modular IMO

The only issue I have with the 300 is that there is no hole in the mobo tray to route the 4/8 pin power connector, so you have to make sure your PSU cable is long enough to reach the connector w/o it gettin in the way of other hardware, lots of peeps just have the cable across the whole board and that looks awfull.. specially if you have a clear side.....

So if you take your time with the cable management and buy a 8 pin power extender you should be fine.....

The 300 has a compartment on the right hand side(when you take the panel off) where you can stuff all the cables....
  32. Thanks, I'm guessing the board your running doesn't require that 4 pin connector?

Yes it does and I will show you why.....

Without the extender, see how it runs across the side of the video card?

    " class="img lazy">

Here is the cable routed on the right hand side WITH an extender :

  34. Oh I see now, thanks. Bad thing is on my cases the PSU mounts on the top. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119161

So the 4 pin connector is extremely close to the PSU 4 pin cable. So there isn't really a way to reroute it, I just leave it right under the HSF so it wraps around to the side. Sorry hard to picture I know LOL.

Naa, I know what you mean... But having the PSU on top is not a bad thing, it all depends... Some like it on top some like it on the bottom...The only reason I like it at the bottom is due to the fact that the case (overall) has a lower center of gravity (harder to tip over)... So it is more balanced..

I'm looking to upgrade my Antec 300 to something bigger and better, I really want a case that has flawless cable management like a Solano :

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811517004

I guess for the price you can't go wrong...Of course the case will be modded and will have a different look to it....
  36. That case is very nice :P Its sorta like an Antec 1200.
  37. It looks like a 1200 knockoff.. and it comes with a 40.00$ rebate.... So in all it should be a no-brainer as far as the price goes....
  38. Yeah, for my build I really wanted a Antec 300 but it made it just out of budget with a Corsair PSU.

Do you think its a good idea if I add a 40mm fan to my NB and a Chipset HSF to my SB? Both are running extremely hot and I've read that LAN and other components can fail if the NB or SB is too hot.
  39. Yes, if it gets to hot add a fan ASAP... you don't want to fry that part of the motherboard... :non:

    Maybe this will help :

    http://www.xoxide.com/40evbalbearf.html

do you have a picture of your motherboard, so i can see what I can come up with?
  40. Thank you, so do I just use the supplied screws and attach it using those?
  41. If its a Dell it will be easy but a screen shot would be nice....
  42. Its this board, with the bad Via chipset :(

It was for a rebuild with a P4 for web surfing and whatnot

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138079

Yeah I was planning to get a 40mm for the NB heatsink and a heatsink for the SB chipset.
  43. Yea this is simple, line up the screws to the heat sink fins and screw.... but make sure you buy a good fan (ball bearing, high CFM), just like the one on xioxide.....
  44. Thanks, got any reccomendations on heatsinks for the HSF?

Just worried the crappy cheap HSF on the NB might crack or something whenthe fan is on. Maybe I can attach it using tie wraps? Make a big loop with the tie wrap around the HSF and then use the small tie wraps and attach the fan using the fan holes and the base loop, LOL.
  45. Yo can screw them with fan screws, and if they are to big, then try a smaller screw.. but I have installed a couple and the NB stays fine...it will bend slightly but nothing to worry about....
  46. Yeah they were a bit too big, (*tried normal fan screws)

Anyways in your opinion should the NB HS be warm to touch? I practically burnt my finger on it
