i've done quite a bit of surfing the web in research, and i've read a good number of posts saying a 4670 is fine for a 300w power supply (mine is 300w that came with the computer, single 12v rail at 19a)- i just thought i'd ask the question myself- should i risk installing it?
I got a athlonx2 2.5, 1 cd/dvd drive, 320gb hard drive 3gb ram- and the computer's still on warranty, if that has any bearing.

i'm planning on getting a new psu in the near future, i just really want to start gaming (first time really playing on a pc).

thanks

I have seen the 4670 run on 400w PSU's but a 300 watt is kinda pushing it....

If you can shell out 39.99$ then you can get a name brand 370W PSU and leave you worries behind....

19a on the 12v is enough for the 4670, its enough for the 9600GT also

I wouldn't try it. People claim you can, but not all PSU's are created equal. Upgrade to a 400W if you want to ensure smooth operation.

A generic 400w psu is equivelent to a quality 250w psu. Dont buy based on stated wattage alone.
A quality 400w+ is what you need

i have a generic 220w psu and it can still run that card.
but i will not suggest it .
you may risk your card like i am risking it.
i have very slow and old pc DDR1 512 mb ram and amd sempron 2800+ so it works.
but its risky to run

That card needs less than 5A running flat out. You should be fine, even if that PSU has to be de-rated to 75% of capacity.
Ovrclker has a point, you don't need to spend a lot to get a good PSU. The one he linked or an Antec Earthwatts 380 would both be good, long term choices.

From my own experience, a ATi Radeon9800XT made a chieftec powersupply rated at 400W stopped working correctly after 6 months.

Get yourself a high quality 650W powersupply (like Corsair for example) and you will be alright for the coming 10 years to come, if you can afford it. They had a 5 year warranty on them the last time I checked.

this one was 39.00 last week..I bought it and love it and powers my 4850 without issues

It probably should work yeh, altho definatly have to agree do you really want to risk it. Just buy a antec earthwatt 380, they arent that expensive rly.

And 650 watt is just extreme overkill for a 4670, he has a reason for getting a 4670 rather then a 4870. its called budget

anyone know if azza makes solid psu's?

Neither are good.

If you want a good inexpensive brand then go with Fortron Source (FSP) or Antec.

It should be fine to be honest. You could spend more money on a new PSU if you can afford it but I wouldn't be that stressed about it. The 12v rail suits the card just fine and there shouldn't any serious issue as the the 4670 is a great low power solution.
