I checked numerous references for power consumption. An 850 watt power supply would have a difficult time powering a system with two 4870x2 video cards during a hardcore gaming session at the highest resolutions. Just about all of the technical reviews recommended a 1,000 watt power supply.

The Corsair TX850 can easily handle and overclocked system with two ATI Radeon HD 5870 video cards in Crossfire mode.

Here are the official power requirements for the brand new ATI Radeon HD 5870 video cards.

ATI Radeon™ HD5870 System Requirements:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended

600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in • dual mode

The power supply recommendations are for an entire pc system.

The Corsair HX650 can easily power an overclocked system with two ATI Radeon HD 5870 video cards operating in Crossfire mode. It has a single large 12 volt rail rated at 52 amps. It also comes with a total of four PCI-e 6+2 pin power connectors for video cards. The connectors can be used as either 6 pin or 8 pin connectors.
