Is that, compatible with a DVD player that has a USB port or even a television with a USB port. I'ven ever used an external drive before but I imagine it to be FAT32 rather than NTFS?

Think you're asking the question the wrong way around.
I.e. Is your DVD player compatible or TV compatible with USB storage devices and under which format(s). Check the manual or provide us with some more details on your DVD player / TV.
