Does anyone know if amd are bringing the current wattages of their processors down? I heard that they were going to bring the phenom ii 955 down to 95 watts from 125 watts in Q1. Would that also be a black edition processor as well?

yeah the Athlon II 240e are lower

the new quad athlons are also featuring lower TDPs

Reply to Upendra09

but i'm not interested in athlon. I've got a phenom ii 720 lol. I just heard that in the furture they were going to decrease the TDP of the Phenom ii x4 955 from 125 watts to 95 watts. Since my motherboard is a XFX Geforce 8300. I just want to know if that is true? If it is so it will still be 95 watts. because i don't really think athlon are for gaming, i know they're brilliant for the price but i'd go for phenom ii any day, and also knowing that phenom ii are worse of than intel quad, i don't want to go for anything less at all. I need that cache in the processor. i know how there is a 95 watt 3ghz phenom ii x4 945 processor but is not black edition. At least shows that my mobo isn't screwed in terms of upgrade.

what i mean buy worse of is clock for clock. I know the 965 is very slightly better than the qx9650 lol. because it is 400 mhz more for starters, still very little difference.

well yes they are coming out with new energy efficient CPUs for Phenoms and Athlons

Reply to Upendra09

they will still be black edition or not really?

it is more stable to have them running at 125 watts then? For overclocking?

technically, if they are still the same part, the 125 editions will just allow for higher overclocks with stock voltage.

so ultimately the 125watt cpu can overclock more? or not necesarrily, could it be that amd are just rubbish, i know they aren't because i specifically bought a phenom ii 720 because i like amd's value. What i'm saying is intel have 95 watt quad cores that have higher over clocking potential than amd's cpus. The core 2 quad 9550 for example. You know what i mean.

not OC more. OC more in the same voltage, but ultimately get to the same OC as the normal CPU

so u have an easier time OCing the energy efficient one than the normal one

you said that with the one with more power to start with it can overclock more on stock voltage. And then you say on same voltage both of them can overclock as much. But wouldn't the 125 watt have a head start to the 95 watt one?
but then that's ok really because i don't overclock more than 500 mhz. Although on this phenom ii 720 i have got it to 3.5ghz so far stable. I suppose i am kind of happy with this motherboard and i still can increase the voltages. This is a micro atx motherboard.

do you think that for all out gaming performance only without multitasking, comparing phenom only, phenom ii 720 is as fast for most games as a phenom ii 955 clock for clock. So i have mine clocked at 3.2ghz which is the same as the phenom ii 955 clocked at 3.2ghz but is a quad core. If not doing any multitasking in the background should i get relatively the same minimum fps and average fps, with at the most a couple less fps, such as 1-7? For games like Crysis, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Turok?

Reply to Nashsafc

and i know that other games will benefit a quad core, very few though, unless you are seriously multitasking.

No the energy efficient one can OC more in the stock voltage

the normal one will need a slight voltage change,

Ultimately they wil get to the same OCed clock but one will have a lower voltage, the energy efficient one

Yes the x3s will be just as fast and a few cases even faster than the quad core but as u get more harder games that take more system power the quad core will come out on top along with a good gfx card

multitasking, the quad will do better

but not a lot of difference between x3s or x4s for gaming or multitasking

for me it's jsut for gaming. Outright gaming performance. So if there are times of intense moments in games, apart from the gpu. Do quads have higher minimum fps than x3 do? Or should it be around the same?

Reply to Nashsafc

around the same cuz i think, i am not sure, but, i think the triples have a bit more cache than the quads

Reply to Upendra09

i thought the quads had a bit more cache. The phenom ii 720 has 7.5mb cache. I thought the phenom ii 955 has 8mb cache. but then also i thought, since it is only 0.5 of a mb that should make very very little difference. They aught to make a 3.2ghz 3 core. But then what would be the point, it would almost cost as much as a quad core at 3ghz do you rekon. I think amd has done well with 3 core. Just for gaming it's a brilliant processor and makes sense, it's a booster from a dual core processor, when not multitasking and at the same clock speed the processor easilly rivals and equals the 4 cores. I mean at some games, that are dual optimised the 3 core will do well.

Reply to Nashsafc

well then i was wrong but yes triple cores are real money savers and the lifesaver for budget builds

Reply to Upendra09

i mainly bought it because my motherboard accepts 95 watts only. I wanted to have a micro atx gaming rig, initially i bought a computer for my mum because she wanted to have a smaller computer case, i bought a matx motherboard. So far, got myself a good case so i can fit in good height cpu cooler and full sized graphics card. But then i suppose that's fine since anyway i'm only using it for games. Should still have a killer game experience
