  1. No. Your old motherboard has a 915 chipset; won't work with any core2 duo cpus. You'll need a different board. I have used the "boston" hp board made by msi. It will run your cpu but only has 2 ram slots. It was $59 on ebay last time I checked. If you don't feel comfortable changing out a motherboard, wait and get another new system and return or sell the cpu on craigslist.
  2. You definitely can't upgrade to a Core 2.

That system has a P4 520 on an Intel i915G chipset based motherboard:
  4. Thanks everyone just making sure that it couldn't. I was hoping it could but nope.
  5. What do you guys think about the AMD Athlon II X3 425 & Biostar MCP6P M2+ Combo that Frys Electronics is selling for $59. Is that a great deal or is there a better deal. As I have been wanting to upgrade the processor.
  6. It isn't a great deal. sells it for $50 and sells it for $45.
  7. Links please as I've checked around and don't seem to find it. Everything I checked comed up to more than $80.

    This one is from
    That's 89.99.
    Motherboard alone is 49.99.
    Processor Alone is 79.99.

I missed that it includes the CPU. With the CPU, it's a good deal.
