Hey, I'm a first time builder with a budget of about $1300 looking to build a nice gaming PC.
I've already got a power supply and a mouse but the rest is all gonna be new. I've gotten some idea's from reading this website's guide, and browsing on Newegg, but none of them are set in stone. Ideally, this PC should run Crysis on high settings at 1650x1080, and keep me set for the next few years gaming wise.

Intended OS
Vista 64x

Overclocking: Possibly, but not necissarily.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Hard Drive
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319

Processor

Motherboard
ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Graphics card
EVGA 01G-P3-1280-RX GeForce GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130427

Case

Memory
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227365

Monitor
Acer X223Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 2500:1 - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145

CD/DVD Burner
SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151187

CPU cooler:
ZALMAN CNPS9900LED 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835118046

So, My basic question is: are there any conflictions in this build? and is it worth it?

Get this RAM instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227381. With either a GTX 275 or 4890 and this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131386. And this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018&Tpk=modxstream%20pro.

Ok, I think I will go with the motherboard combo you suggested hunter.

Also I'm going to go with this dvd drive:

SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE 22X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151175

And I think this CPU cooler:
ZALMAN CNPS9900LED 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118046

I'm pretty sure it will fit in the case I listed, but am I right? And is it necessary given the case ventilation?

Ok, that looks like a much better deal, I guess I'll go with both of those. One question: Will this Cpu cooler fit?

Any though about this Combo.

* ASUS M4A78T-E 790GX Motherboard [newegg.com]
* 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DHX DDR3-1600 Desktop Memory [newegg.com]

* 1TB Samsung F1 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive [newegg.com]
* 6' Rosewill HDMI Cable [newegg.com]
* Total: $354 After $15 Asus Rebate [newegg.com] + $15 Corsair Rebate [newegg.com] + s/h

is this combo gud if I have Antec BP 430W power supply.

I'm not terribly familiar with Tom's Hardware forums, but I'm pretty sure if you want to ask a question with no relation to the main topic you should start your own thread.

Also, another question:

Is the GTX 280 a worthwhile card? I've been reading that it runs very hot, and that I'd be better off going with a 285 or 2 GTX 260's. Any thoughts?

Shameless bump. Can anyone tell me if the CPU cooler will fit in this build? and is the GTX 280 a good choice?
