hey mike!
thanks for the comparison
but i was looking for a tri-core vs a quad core comparison
is there any additional benefit in getting in paying more to get a quad core, or will i be alright with the tri-core AMD Phenom 2 X3 720BE!

I like the folks over at Hot Hardware.

http://hothardware.com/Articles/AMD-Phenom-X3-8750-TriCore-Processor/?page=1

Their bottom line is that quad core performs better and is not that much more expensive. If you can afford it then make the leap.

However, if that budget is real, then going with DDR2 (which has lower timings than DDR3 which is a good thing) and tri-core make sense.

Sorry if the processor isn't exactly what you wanted but it gives you the general idea.
