When I turn my computer on everything is working just fine..except my monitot which comes on and goes straight to power save mode.Why is that?

It could be a bad monitor, try it on another computer. If it works on another computer, then start XP in the SAFE mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key at boot. Then check your power settings to ensure the monitor is "always on" using the Desktop Properties, Screen Saver tab.
