Have you verified that there are no other remotes in the room
broadcasting unwanted commands?

I say this because I have experienced the case where pressing the Up
button once causes TiVo to go up continuously. Each time it was
a result of a remote stuck in the couch cushions sending out
a continuous signal, which confused TiVo.
