Silicon Madness - The hardware craze

Complete with Youtube video of the feat,
which was made possible with the help of some liquid nitrogen(LN2). 6.6GHz, unlocked to quad-core.

Not surprising, the Phenom II's regularly clock up to 6-7ghz on liquid nitrogen.

If its a new revision im not at all surprised, one of the early massive overclockings of a PII was bringing a PII 940 up to 6.8GHz, the new stepping should improve leakage and therefore stability, plus getting 2 cores stable is easier than all 4, however this is all only really possible because the current AMD line up does not suffer from a cold bug.

It was unlocked to four cores.

So.... we got another Phenom II quad to 6.6Ghz. Is there any significance to this?

I have to say, I don't care that much about what happens with LN2. It's not like I'll be using it at home. Now the high clocks on water or air, then I'm interested :D

I wonder how many home users have LN2 coolng on their rigs ? I'm guessing its a big fat zero.

I wish people would stick to "real world" practical cooling solutions that doesnt require BOC to turn up with a tanker everytime someone fancied overclocking their new CPU

Of course they dont use LN2 cooling on their home rigs dont be ridiculous. They're aiming for world record overclocks here. Its not suppose to be for regular use or even 100% stability.

Yeah it's a bit like car racing, NASCAR etc
Heavily modified cars racing, winner isn't necessarily the best on the actual road, but the event/competition is still cool.

But anywho, love the LN2 benches, but I wish more sites had 'fastest on air'. Often when I look for new processors I try to hunt down daily overclocks to see what I might be able to push.
