I have tried like crazy to get my TiVo togo feature to work with
viewing the video's I have downloaded from my TiVo.
I installed http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/* and yet I still get
error. I even tried a second codec and that didn't help wither.
I am running win2000 and media player 9.
Any help would be appreciated!!!

The error is the subject "error downloading codec"
The other codec is K lite.
The problem occurs when after I enter ethe password, the media player I
still get the same error, "Sending request for codec" then it switches
to another messages very quikly which I cannot read, and eventually it
ends up at "error downloading codec" and a dialog appears. I click the
dialog and it has a another more specific error "0xC00D1199: Cannot
play the file".

Sorry for the lack of detail. I hope someone else has seen this.

That means that your media player is not recognizing a codec. You should
have one installed, but your media player is trying to download a codec,
as though there isn't one installed. The "error downloading codec" means
that it couldn't find one to download, either.

Long story short, either you've installed the wrong codec, or you haven't
installed it correctly (or at all).

Try http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html to fix that problem.

I believe someone else had this same problem and resolved it by upgrading to
Windows Media Player 10.

Thanks, I would appreciate knowing that it worked (or even if it didn't.)

I discovered that Media player 10 is not supported in Win 2000. I can
only run ver 9.
Any other ideas?

Well, I'd say upgrade to Windows XP, but you probably would have already
done that if it were an option. Have you tried another brand of media
player?

Can you suggest one that might be best?
Thx!

I don't know, I suggest starting a new thread with the subject "I need a
recommendation for an alternative to Windows Media Player" or "Which media
player is best?" in this group as well as others that have even more to do
with computer video. I'm sure you will get some opinions from people who
have tried several different ones.

You know what I continue this thread here not only for myself but also
for anyone else who might have this same problem. I can't believe I am
the only one dealing with this.
Do you know of another media and can you just tell me?

Tony, he suggested you start a new thread *in this same group*, so it
wouldn't be buried at the bottom of this one and it would get *more*
visibility, not less. He's not trying to blow you off.

Thanks, Randy! Tony, Randy is correct. I didn't mean to give you the
brush-off or anything like that, I just want your request for a
recommendation to get some visibility, because I doubt very many people are
still following this thread. You can post the results of the new thread *in
this thread* as well, so anyone looking for help with the same problem can
see them. As for your question "Do you know of another media and can you
just tell me?" I believe the first three words of my last post were "I don't
know" which is literally true, I do not know anything about any other media
players. If I did I would be happy to just tell you but I don't, so I gave
you some excellent search tips. If you use them, I am sure that you will
find an answer.

Thanks to you both, I misinterpreted the message.
I did a search and tried downloading Real Media. I installed it and
only tried it briefly.
I will try it again and report back what happened.

Cool, I'll be interested to find out how it went!
