Is it possible to take the parts of an xbox 360 that read the CDs and make an optical drive for the computer so you can pretty much have an xbox in a computer?

Has this ever been done?

DVD-9 = double layer DVD, read by normal computer DVD drives.

360 emulation would be done by software--you would not need parts of an Xbox 360 in your PC.

If you wanted to use some kind of hardware, you'd probably end up stuffing a 360 into a PC case.

No, it's not a matter of reading the discs, but emulating the game. 360 just uses DVD-9.

Could you make a drive that reads DVD-9? Cause from what i've heard its a ton of work to get all the emulators and everything else

Edit: What i ment is, Is could you make a drive with all of the stuff to read and play the game?

Google around a bit.
I don't know much about modern emulators either, but the general consensus seems to be that an emulator will not be possible for some time.

It's not as simple as changing some code so that a game runs on PC hardware equally as powerful as the 360 hardware: Instead, there's a layer of software in between that allows the game to utilize the PC hardware.
Basically, you need a PC that's significantly faster than a 360 to adequately emulate the 360.... and I do not think there is any working emulation software out there right now.
If I may ask, what's the purpose of this project? Maybe there's some other way to achieve your goal.

well I've always wanted one thing that could play any computer game, and pretty much any other playstation and xbox game. (i figured once i found out how to get the xbox part working i would know how to make the playsation part work)
