I don't recommend trying to change out the gateway board; the system windows installation may be tied to the motherboard bios. If you're unhappy, try selling the whole system intact on craigslist. And build your own.

Do you still own the FX6801?? if, so, can you tell me which 2 pins the power switch connects to on the MB connector FP1? (I want to re-use the motherboard in another case.)

On my FX6801, I changed out the Gateway motherboard for a Gigabyte Z68mx with a new i7 2600k; re-used the original hard drive (with OS installed) loaded new drivers (had to re-activate Windows) and it's up and running! I'd be happy to answer any questions that i can. DrDelp
