No, vidock is not good for games. Don't buy it if you haven't got one. Bandwidth limitation of the express card interface will be a major bottle neck on your addon desktop gpu. It won't play game well even if you put a desktop 6990 in there compared with a cheapish laptop with dedicated 6570m.

Have a look here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vidock-expresscard-...

I know it is crysis not crysis 2 and it is anotehr version of the vidock. But it demonstrate how the lack of bandwidth of the express card is limiting the gpu. Compare the result of the 3870 with the 2600XT, they are slightly different. But in reality the 3870 is about 2.5-3 times faster than the 2600XT. 2600XT was a mid range card 1 generation older than the 3870, a high end card.

Here are some ideas for your laptop, I know they are from an American site but you can probably find something similar in your area (India?):

Recommend:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I think the price in India may be higher but I think I give enough headroom for price inflation if I stick to the $700-800 range.

A bit out of your price range but this is a laptop of the true gaming pedigree:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Edit: Found one in the ROG within your price range:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

And no, I don't think there are any particularly stylish laptop in this price range. Laptop of these performance will not look (sleek, funky, stylish) judged by conventional taste, but the ASUS gaming laptop does yell gaming hardcore like a Ferrari.

Battery on these may not be so good, may be about 2 or a bit over 2 hrs on power saving mode.

Selecting the right laptop is to balance between price, performance, quality, size and battery life.

For your list of games, since I am no expert on all the game's system requirement, I suggest you bring that list to the gaming forum in tom's hardware and ask the people with more knowledge about games there. I can pick one obvious game which you may have trouble running (GTA4). It is not the fault of the hardware, the game is just really broken and runs badly on PC. If you check that list with them there and they run ok on the laptop you decide to buy, then go and get it and enjoy your new laptop.

Building a new desktop for gameing and a seperate laptop for portablility/work at school is good. You many want to get help for your build on the system forum.

If you are not using your laptop for gaming, you can get a laptop without dedicated gpu, have the color you want, which is also cheaper and have longer battery life.

http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/K53...

check out the color options.

For Acer, I think someone need to give you that recommendation since I am not familir with Acer's lineup of laptops.

The ASUS I recommend is 15.6 inch. Since you are going to build a desktop specifically for gaming, you can get a cheaper laptop which doesn't have dedicated gpu and gives you longer battery and in the color you want. But is there a particular reason for buying Acer and Acer only?

Sorry to hear about your uncle. I am not familiar with Acer computer so I am not sure what color they offer:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

But this is as expensive as the lenovo here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I have to say the lenovo is the better laptop overall. It i s more balanced with mid cpu and gpu therefore you can game on it. The Acer is unbalance, you pay for the cpu and the laptop is only fast on running cpu heavy application. But if you are only using your laptop for web browsing, word editing and media playback, getting an i7 is a waste of money. You can get the job done with a $300-400 laptop. Split your money into a $300-400 laptop and a $600-700 gaming desktop.
