Just assembled a PC with new and old components.

MB ASRock G41M-GS (micro ATX, LGA 775) - new
Enlight EN-72500SZ ATX Midtower Case - new
C2D E8400 - old
Rosewill RD500 - old
XFX 7600 GT - old
OCZ DDR2 PC 8500 - old

Except for the MB, all other components are spares/leftovers which are fully functional in other systems.

The problem is that PC will not power up at all. Tthere are no lights, sounds, fan movement. Nothing. I even pulled a different power supply from a working system and still nothing powered up.

what should I do next?
I don't think the power supply, nor the CPU are the problem since both work in other systems. I am left with the MB or the power button on the new case as the culprit(s).

Take the MB out of the case and see if it will power up. You can use a paper clip to cross the power button pins on the MB to rule out the power switch on the case.
If still nothing then I would RMA the board.

In my experience these sort of problems are usually caused by a dodgy connection in the 4/8pin ATX 12V line, have you used a tester to make sure your getting a full twelve volts from that line?

Many thanks for all the excellent advice.

I pulled the MB. Left the CPU, HSF and one stick of memory. Next, connected the 20+4 and the 12V 4-pin. The PSU lit up soon as the paper clip connected the power button pins. Next, instead of the paper clip, I used the actual case PWR SW connector. The PSU came on after pressing the power on button on the case front.

I now suspect that there was a short somewhere after installing the MB and components in the case. Now, it's time to test each component sequentially.

My apologies to jsc about the single best answer vote. Truthfully, your link was equally invaluable in the troubleshooting process.
