I have an older Sony VAIO with a SATA PCI card that runs my two Seagate drives. Recently I was given a computer that was not operating, containing a 400 GB Western Digital drive.
I disconnected my two Seagate drives, connected the WD drive to the SATA card and powered up to see if I could get a response from the WD drive. During boot up, I saw a message that I believe said "USD Updated Successfully!". The WD drive was unresponsive, so I powered down, unconnected the WD drive and re-connected my Seagate drive with Windows.

Now The machine fails during boot-up sequence, saying I have "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\Config\system

Any insight?
