  1. Windows Server 2003 should work just fine on a Core i7 CPU. You don't need a server motherboard just to run a server OS - you'd only need one if you want the features that such a motherboard provides, such as multiple CPU sockets or support for ECC RAM.

You'd have to check the specs for the motherboard to see what CPUs are supported - most server motherboards are designed for Xeon processors. For example, the Xeon W3520 is the same as the Core i7 920, but it also supports ECC memory.
  2. hey...thanx a lot..!
i asked this ques bcz i recently bought a c2d e7500 wid dg 41rq m/b but when i tried 2 install win server 03 on it it gave an blue screen error IRQ_not_less_equal, something of this sort, i couldn't read it completely cz d system restarts vry quickly, i was able 2 install the windows only after switching off core multiplexing from bios, so m running xp on my c2d it's working fine...but m still not able to install win 2003 server on it without turning off core multiplexing.....!!
  3. There doesn't seem to be much information available about "Core Multiplexing" and it's impact on programs or operating systems. If WS2003 works with it turned off then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It seems that your version of Windows Server 2003 is less than SP2, I have Windows Server 2003 w/SP2 + All available Updates till 24.11.09 and it works very fine on C2Q Q6600, it operates much better than XP SP3. But it requires a very deep tweaking, and not all applications are compatible with it.
  5. i try to install win2k3 standard on asus motherboard with i7 860, and experience lagging in everything. seems like this new motherboard & processor don't want old OS, but working fine with windows 7 & server 2008 r2 :sarcastic:

already install the graphic driver, chipset driver and tweak the server 2003 to become "workstation". before this using pentium 4 and s775 motherboard with q9550. no problem like this.

    anyone who has opinion?
  6. Hi All,

Q 1 ) On which machine Windows 2003 Server 32 bit work better?

    1) Core i7 720@ 1.6 MHz
    2) Core i5 2.6 Mhz
    3) Core i3 2.4 Mhz

Q2) Suppose I want to update my windows 2003 Server 32 Bit to Windows 2008 64 bit, how would i do that keeping my previous programs intact?

    whats your budget OP?

Suppose my budget allows me to buy any of the above machine....as Core i7 is 1.6GHz so does it means it works slow than Core i3 2.4GHz
