hi..
i want 2 buy a pc having core i7 processor, but i want 2 install win. server 2003 enterprise ed. on it.
so i wanted 2 know if there are any issues regarding core i7 supporting windows 2003?
pls also tell me the supporting motherboard for windows 2003.
can i use a core i7 processor with a server mobo..?
Windows Server 2003 should work just fine on a Core i7 CPU. You don't need a server motherboard just to run a server OS - you'd only need one if you want the features that such a motherboard provides, such as multiple CPU sockets or support for ECC RAM.
You'd have to check the specs for the motherboard to see what CPUs are supported - most server motherboards are designed for Xeon processors. For example, the Xeon W3520 is the same as the Core i7 920, but it also supports ECC memory.

hey...thanx a lot..!
i asked this ques bcz i recently bought a c2d e7500 wid dg 41rq m/b but when i tried 2 install win server 03 on it it gave an blue screen error IRQ_not_less_equal, something of this sort, i couldn't read it completely cz d system restarts vry quickly, i was able 2 install the windows only after switching off core multiplexing from bios, so m running xp on my c2d it's working fine...but m still not able to install win 2003 server on it without turning off core multiplexing.....!!
There doesn't seem to be much information available about "Core Multiplexing" and it's impact on programs or operating systems. If WS2003 works with it turned off then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It seems that your version of Windows Server 2003 is less than SP2, I have Windows Server 2003 w/SP2 + All available Updates till 24.11.09 and it works very fine on C2Q Q6600, it operates much better than XP SP3. But it requires a very deep tweaking, and not all applications are compatible with it.
