I'm in the process of upgrading to a SSD and wondering what to buy. My motherboard (x58) has two SATA3 ports. However, they use the troublesome Marvel 9128 controller. So more than likely it would be plugged into the Intel ACH10R SATA2 controller. My question is, is it worthwhile to go for the Vertex 3 120GB anyways, or should I just go for the Vertex 2 which I can get for about $125 cheaper. There is a possibility that I will upgrade my rig this fall so hence my dilemma. Should I get the Vertex 2 now or grab the Vertex 3 when I can find one and (hopefully) I'll be able to benefit from SATA3 this fall.

Any advice? Thanks.

I'd rather have a hand-me-down V3 than an older gen V2 any day. The V3 controller is stronger all around even on sata2 and has better GC and reduced throttling over the first gen. Unless money is the only concern do yourself a favor and don't buy an obsolete drive like that. I have both and have tried many others so I can speak from experience here.
