Was Linux ever installed on the hard disk? Did you configure the BIOS to boot from CD/DVD before the hard disk and are you absolutely sure that you inserted a bootable CD?

I have the same type of problem if anyone could please help me.

Was told in insert Vista cd go to repair then Command Prompt put in some stuff like bootrec /fixboot, but nothing is working. Have important stuff on my H/D so I can't just format it.

You should boot from a CD like BartPE and backup all of your important data. It's always easier to backup before running into issues.

I can't exactly do that now because I can't even get into the computer.

This what keeps happening to me.

Booting 'Windows Vista'

acpi
Vista Loader 2.1.2

Done!
fallback 1
find --set-root /bootmgr

Warning: Unrecognized partition table for drive 80. Please rebuild it using a Microsoft-compatible FDISK tool(err=28). Current C/H/S=65535/16/63

Error 17: File not found

Someone please help me out if you can!!!

That issue occurred without any warning and without installing or removing another OS?

Yeah it just came out of the blue was working perfect then I went to turn it on this morning and that came up on the screen.

It said on another forum that if I installed EasyBCD that it work then. Could I just burn EasyBCD onto a disc using another computer bootup using CDROM with the disc in would that work?

Reply to joebhoy1916

I haven't tried using EasyBCD that way, but you need a bootable disk or CD/DVD to run the program. Have you read http://support.microsoft.com/?scid [...] x=12&y=11?

Reply to GhislainG

Yeah I've tried all that with no luck!!

If your data really is important, then you might not have too many options other than having it recovered by professionals. Other members might be able to suggest recovery tools, but if you make a mistake, then your data might be lost forever. Unfortunately I can't recommend specific recovery tools as I never had to use them.
