Dont wish to hijack but this seems quite a common problem. I have it too its not on boot or at any specific time.. the screen just goes blank (ie NOT black). the monitor indicates that the monitor has entered power saving mode becuase it flicks between digital and analog source... If i remove the vga cable then i get the rgb bars telling me the monitor is not connected to the base unit.. so this is why i say its power saving mode.

Nothing will wake the monitor though, but the computer still seems to be functioning. .A restart works fine. This isnt a heat related issue.

I have a Wolfdale e8400, 4 gig OCZ reaper ram, XFX alphadog 8800GT (with S1 cooler and twin fans so the temp is REAL low @ 55 degrees under load). My PSU is about 12 months old and an Antec 850w jobby. Hard drive is western digital and mobo is Asus A8E. All drivers are current and all windos 7 home updates are bang upto date.

have an SPI firewall, Zonealrm, AVG, malwarebytes/Spyware s&D scans are all clean.

This behaviour has only started in the last week or so, ive not installed an new software or hardware in this time. PC used to work without issues.

Im still investigating the issue myslef im thinking IE8, sound issue or power saving issue... I say sound becuase the monitor never goes when sound card is in use....at least... it hasnt yet,... (oh and i use onboard Realtek sound). Im saying IE 8 because i spend most of my time on the net...even when it crashed in a game i had the browser window open

any ideas?

I am having the same problem. The blank screen occurs during Windows XP startup and randomly while I am in the middle of something important at work.

I installed an HIS ATI 5750 last week and have the latest dirvers:

Driver Packaging Version 8.69-091211a-094292C-ATI
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.7039
2D Driver File Path System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Video/{3CF6873B-A565-4984-AD7B-2F060F1692A2}/0000
Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0723
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9252
Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.1211.1547.28237

Prior to the 5750, I had an EVGA nVidia 8800 GTS 512MB in this computer, and it worked fine. I have found other threads about this problem on other forums.

AVG 8.5 antivirus
Sypbot Search and Destroy
Windows XP SP2 (up to date)
Motherboard: GA-EP45-DS4P
CPU: Intel Q9450 Core2 Quad
Memory: 4GB Corsiar
PSU: Cooler Master 750W Pro

Cheers Wlaziu, I did try that but it made no difference at all.. A restart ALWAYS sorted the problem though.

For info i have a workaround. It was indeed a power saving issue, although no idea why its started playing up now!

Try going into your power saving options and set monitor to enter power saving -> NEVER. No problems since for me

Is weird that the problem just occured and that dude above is on XP and im on Windows 7. Also he is using an ATI and im using a Nvidia...

eugue2000 did you FULLY remove the nvidia drivers before installing the ATI ones? Im thinking maybe an update to the nvidia drivers is preventing the power saving wake up call from being monitored.. Cant really see that as i HAD'NT updated my driver from the windows 7 ones until i encountered the problem.....weird

Above workaround seems to work, just doenst really solve whats causing the issue

As for the ATI catalyst 10.1 drivers they have some serious issues with power saving functions. If you have an Ati card reverting to catalyst 9.12 solves the problem.
