Asus K8S-LA and 1TB SATA hard drive

I have an old Compaq Presario SR1315CL with an Asus K8S-LA mobo, Sempron 3100 1.8GHz, 512MB RAM, chipset SiS 760/964. I have a 1TB Seagate SATA hard drive that I'm trying to connect, but it locks up right after the memory check during boot. Instructions for the drive say to put the jumper on the outermost pins for that chipset (which I did) otherwise it will lock up the pc. As soon I as disconnect the drive, it boots up fine. I have a 500gb Seagate SATA drive that works fine. I tried disconnecting the 500gb, and the 1TB still locks it up. Am I missing something, or is the mobo too old for the TB drive? thanks...

Perhaps, or maybe you haven't installed the latest BIOS update for your mobo?

No, I have not. I looked at it, and the latest is 2005-10-19. I will try that. Thank you.

Nope, I never found a bios update. I haven't looked in awhile. If I find anything, I will post it.
