I'm a student in University and I was tasked with fixing this IBM 8682 Server. Whenever powered on, it fails POST and beeps an error of "1-1-4" meaning "Bios eeprom checksum failed".
Attempted to do the floppydisk restore, but it doesnt work. Theres no video (no prompt) letting us restore the BIOS via floppydrive. (It wont boot off of floppy)
Why is this error so irreversable? What would someone have to do to cause this issue? (We had some other students playing around on our Server, and wanna get to the bottom of the cause.)
The flash memory of the server consists of a primary page and a backup page. The
J14 jumper controls which page is used to start the server. If the BIOS in the
primary page is corrupted, you can use the backup page to start the server; then
boot the BIOS Flash Diskette to restore the BIOS to the primary page.
