Reliability in HDDs by capacity

Hello folks. I had a question, is there any reliability difference in between going with 500GB 7200rpm HDD vs 750GB 7200rpm HDD? Obviously from a reputable company, but I was thinking will the smaller drive last longer or will it not matter?

It's negligible. Drives are just as likely to fail regardless of capacity.

Unless you've got that 750GB drive sitting around I'd go for a 2TB drive right now as it's the cheapest per gigabyte.

All drives will fail sooner or later. The way around this is to have frequent external back-ups.

When you are comparing MTBFs make sure that the drives are in the same class. Don't compare a WD Caviar Black to a WD Green.
