hi all,
i'm planning to buy geforce 9500gt or radeon hd4650 but problem lies in my PSU which is generic 400w, it came with my micro-atx cabinet iball baby 306.

its rating is 17A on +12v rail!!!!
is that sufficient for these graphics cards??? or please suggest me another video card which can cope up with my PSU coz i cant upgrade my psu and cabinet ( recently upgraded them!!!!!)

please help me guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution

According to the chart on this page you should be OK.
What purpose is this card for?
That case is quite narrow, I would say look for a 'low profile' type of card to ensure it will fit.
Either card will run off minimum power-if not the flatulence of squirrels-so either will run perfectly on your PSU.
If this is for gaming I would check this listing out before making a decision, the 9500 needs fast GDDR3 memory (most have slower GDDR2) to match the DDR2 equipped HD4650 (the DDR3 version is faster still but very hard to find).

as the purpose of the card is concerned I'm not a serious gamer, i just want a cheap upgrade to play my favorite games like gtr2, gtr evo, rfactor, rbr, grid...mainly racing titles. my screen's native resolution is 1024X768( 15-inch ). I'm asking about the psu coz somebody told me to upgrade ur psu, as ur cheap *ss psu can't stand a video card( get a quality psu like antec or corsair) but i dont want to upgrade my psu for a video card like 9500gt or hd4650!!!!

If racing games is your thing then you would be better served looking at the 9800 'green card' as it does not require a supplementary power feed and should be a better performer than the 9500GT (which is in no way a 'gaming' card by any stretch of the imagination).

@mousemonkey
i dont have budget for 9800, if i had money for that card then i would be better by upgrading my cabinet and PSU.........
thats why i'm asking u guys about a cheap card just to feed my small resolution monitor......i can only afford an entry level card right now which can play games on medium settings for upcoming 1 yr time span!
