I was working on a friends laptop (the OS is XP SP2) and everythng seemed perfectly fine at my house. I could connect to the internet no problem, and booted with no hassel. I sent the laptop back to her, and she can't connect to the internet. I took a look at the laptop again, at her house, and noticed that she had no IP address. There was no connection to the DHCP server. This is all on a WIRELESS connection. I've ipconfig /release and /renew, nothing. I unplugged the router for a min and half or so, nothing. I have reset the winsock, nothing. I am a little stumped.

Does it connect to the router and is the signal good to excellent? If so, is the router configured as a DHCP server?

Its at excellent connection. I'm not sure if it is configured as a DHCP server.

Check the router's configuration and make sure that DHCP is enabled. Also check the IP range assigned to DHCP.

How can I find my external IP on xp?

if you're new to all this just type - "whats my IP" into google - otherwise your routers webinterface should show the LAN IP
