i wanna connect to the pc at work (Ubuntu) from my home pc(vista). I can get the works IP to use but i would like a quick guide on how to do it if anyone knows.

You need a VPN connection, and that your user are part of the VPN users. After this, the only thing that you have to do is: Go to network connections, create a new VPN network connetion, using your actually internet connection, write the IP of the VPN of your work, after this, connect to the VPN connection, do the authentication in the network of your work and you are ready.

VPN would work, however at some companies (like at mine) the applicable ports needed to successfully VPN are sometimes blocked. You may want to look into VNC. There are a few different versions of VNC, and it also will run on both Linux and Windows.

^VNC is a BIG HOLE SECURITY, and maybe the firewall reject the conection to the domain.
