Hi everyone,
I'm going to buy a new computer soon, and in the moment I have two choices in processors:
1. AMD Phenom II X4 955, socket 3, 3.2GHz http://products.amd.com/en-us/Desk [...] spx?id=532 for 670€ (1006$)
2. AMD Phenom X4 9950, socket 2, 2.6GHz: http://products.amd.com/en-us/Desk [...] spx?id=476 for 550€ (826$)
(these are the prices of whole configuration, the only difference is CPU)

My questions are: Which one is better for its price?
Are their differences in performance really worth paying 120€ (180$) more?

I really need your professional opinion. I'm buying it on thursday, so please help ASAP!

Appreciate any kind of help.. :)

go with the 945, they are the same as the 955/965 it's just that the 955/965 are factory OCed

yes the old phenoms suck

don't waste money on the old phenoms, get the phenom II plus the new ones support DDR3 memory

Everything else is the same, only CPU is the difference.
So the complete configuration price difference is equal to CPU price difference..
Got it? ;)

I would say it's not worth the price, at least not that large of a price difference. I've got both a Phenom and a Phenom II, I can without a doubt say the Phenom II is a better processor, but not $180 better.

Are the prices really that different? In the US, you can get a phenom II 955 for just ~$180.

In agreement with everyone else, the price probably isn't worth the extra performance, but you should check out the athlon II quad core, which would probably beat the phenom 9950 by a little bit, and it would also OC better if that's your thing.

Sorry, my bad. I didn't knew that the motherboards in both configurations are gonna be different, I wasn't informed about that (my friend made those offers for me). So the motherboard thats in conf. with AMD 955 costs more than that in 9950.
Again sorry, my bad..

So i've bought a computer 3 weeks ago, and configuration is:
Motherboard: Asus M4A785TD-V EVO (has integrated graphic card, can work in Crossfire)
CPU: AMD Phenom II 945, x4, 3.0GHz
RAM: 4Gb
HDD: 1Tb
Graphic card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 (with 512Mb DDR5)
and
Windows 7 64-bit

all that for 610€

Good choice, that is a really nice system you got.

------------------------------ Phenom II X4 940 BE 3.0GHz - 1.25V > GA-MA790GP-DS4H > XFX ATI 4850 1GB > 4GB OCZ Platinum 1066MHz 5-5-5-15-2T > PCP&C 610W
Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz > GA-MA770T-UD3P > Sapphire ATI 4650 512MB DDR3 > 4GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz@1066MHz > XP/Win7 Enter 64
