Which interface? What kind of system is it going into? Are you expecting absolute top-quality sound or something more mainstream?

For most applications onboard sound is more than enough.

I'm really new to sound cards as if I got this one, it would be my first ever sound card and just recently I read some comparisons with onboard and sound cards and they make the sound cards seem godly. I was just hoping to use this for gaming in CSS as my headset atm sounds a bit flat and I'm planning on buying a £50 headset if I get the card to actually put use to it a bit.

Yea sorry for being so brief. I'm looking for a internal PCI sound card, going into a 1 year old gaming rig, 4870, E8400 ect. I'm just looking for a sound card that is budget but will be decent with a £50-£60 headset for things such as gaming, music and just general sound.

ASUS Xonar D1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] xonar%20d1 ($89; $69 after rebate)

HT Omega Striker: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] %20Striker ($89)

If these are out of you're price range, you're only option left is the Creative Extremegamer, which is frankly, not close to the quality the other cards offer. (Nevermind their driver support...)

Which one out of those 2 is value more value for money? I'm liking the ASUS atm just because I have read good reviews on their Xonar cards and they are quite cheap and also look nice. The Omega on the other hand I have never heard of but also seems to have good reviews...
