I have a hp pc and i bought a e8400 and everything i read tells me to upgrade my bios.Model # is a6319fh chipset g33.If i do this will i lose anything? What can go wrong?Do i even have to upgrade my bios?Sorry for all the questions but i cant just go out and get a new pc if it messes up.I know im gonna have to upgrade the drivers also should i do this 1st?Any help would be more than welcomed.
The only thing you might loose by upgrading the BIOS are the BIOS settings themselves, everything else should be intact.
As for what can go wrong: BIOS flash fail. If something goes really wrong during the flash, your MB can become unusable. However, this mostly never happened, I performed a fair share of flashes (20-30) and none of them ever failed on me (except a firmware flash of a probably already defective NIC that I was trying to salvage).
