Is 390 W PSU Cooler master ok for 4850

I would appreciate if someone could help in deciding if the PSU i have is sufficient for Power color HD 4850. i have used online power calculators and they said it was safe. My computer specs are

CPU: Core 2 Duo Q6600 (Stock 2.4 Ghz)
HDD: SATA Segate 500 GB
IDE segate 160 GB
Ram : 4 GB DDR 2 (800 Mhz) Transcend 2 sticks
DVD writer ASUS 20x DVD write speed (i don't remember the model no)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35 S3G
Fans : 2 x 120 mm
GPU: Sapphire HD 2400 Series
Power Supply: cooler master 390 W

i wanted to upgrade to Power Color 4850, but i am not sure will the current PSU handle the new card, do i need extra power connectors from PSU 6 or 4 pin type for the card.

Please help in this respect.

  1. - 450 Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended (550 Watt and two 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

You could use adapters for the 6-pin but you may be pushing things with that 390W PSU.

My advice, save for a better PSU or go with a 4670.
  2. All the cards that list specs on NewEgg show a minimum of 450 watts...The new GPU should come with power cables... It might work, but an extra $50+ would make you more future proof...
  3. Ok thanks guys for the advice. i better upgrade the PSU first then the card
