How can I find a deleted file on windows xp home

My laptop Dell XPS m140 won't open windows.( Masg# \windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt. ) is there a solution to this? I try everything and the same massage comes back.

You tried "everything" covers a lot of ground.
Do you have a Windows CD ? If so, do a repair install.

No I don't ,that's why I'm asking if there is some other way to recupt. them? ( no cd )

Yes there are other ways. Forgive me if this was included in "everything else you tried" !

Can you boot at all ?
Into Safe Mode ?
Can you do a Windows System Restore to date prior to when error began ?

Can't do anything!! Even with the cd for reinstalling software!! Help!!!
