I have a Speedstream 5100 modem that has been hooked up to a cheap Dynex router for the past year. Well we recently got a new Netgear router for better quality. When I unhooked the Dynex router and hooked up the Netgear one the modem wouldn't respond. So I said screw it and put the Dynex one back on. Modem still wouldn't communicate with the router.I have tried calling my ISP, Dynex, and Netgear. Dynex and Netgear said it is my ISP's fault and my ISP said it is their fault. I cannot access anything in my modem or the router when I hook the router to the modem. The modem runs PPPoE as I understand. I really need some step by step instructions... So if anyone could help me PLEASE!

Put the 5100 in bridge mode and make the PPPOE connection on the router.

Not to sound like a complete idiot, but everytime I put it in bridge mode the modem doesn't connect to the net anymore. Could you give me a few steps please :??: . I know a bit about computers but nothing about networking.
