External USB 3.0 HDD Problem

Forum Storage : Hard Drives External USB 3.0 HDD Problem

Myself and a friend of mine each have a verbatim Superspeed USB 3.0 external hard drive and we also have a Del XPS laptop with USBs 3.0. The problem we have is when we plug the drive into the laptop it will continuously inform you to format the drive first. Over and over like it keeps finding the drive. I have called Verbatim tech support and was told to find on the web the NEC USB 3.0 driver that this should fix it, well it didn't. If I hook it up using a USB2.0 cable it works fine. My friend has also been in contact with dell tech support and hasn't been able to fix the problem. Any suggestion, what to do?

well.... HAS the drive ever been formatted?

every single time you log on it would most likely pop up.

i know that some hard drives most likely come pre-formatted if they have tools installed on them (like some major brands do) but i'm not sure about the verbatim brand drive.

if there is absolutely nothing on the drive, then perhaps yes, you might need to format it.

yes it has been formatted, though the only way I could was by using a USB 2.0 cord
