Hey guys, I am buying not building a computer that has an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Socket 775(LGA775) and was wondering if this was dying? If not, Is it at least upgradable. My main concern is how it will fare against the new games? Does the socket have anything to do with that? Thanks.

Yes, socket 775 is a dead socket. You'll never get anything better for it than a core2quad. Currently the C2D and C2Q still hold up very well with modern appications and games, it's just if you purchase something with socket 775, you'll need a new motherboard in the future if you want a better processor.

If I were you and I could afford it, I would go for an i5 or i7 system.

775 isn't dead, but lett's just say i5/i7 is more alive and definitely will be around after 775 died.
