What is the best configuration for a new PC. I would like to use a SSD for OS and applications and then a SATA drive for data. I am looking for Main board, CPU and RAM specifications.

No doubt at all, Its Western Digital. Take Veloci Raptor or Caviar Black SATA

There's not really a great difference between them, some have had bad experiences with certain brands but it's not always the same. I like Western Digital and Seagate, and have only really had issues with Fujitsu and Maxtor.
