Would a geforce 9500 work on this system ok

The 9500 would work but its a pretty bad card and wouldnt play very graphically intense games. What games do you play?

Also adding another 2 gigs of ram would be useless because 32 bit operating systems cant even use the full 4 gigs u already have.

Games like Half-life and mods I installed lost planet but it ran to slow how about the 8800 geforce is it any better

my cpu is a amd athlon 64 x 2 dual core 5600 could i upgrade the os to win 7 64 bit

I dont believe you can upgrade a 32 bit os to 64 bit, so you would have to buy the full win 7. As for video cards I would recommend something like this:

The 4850 is a pretty good card, better than the 8800gt. It will play your games at max without any trouble. If you want something a little more powerful you could go with the 4870 for about $30 more, something like this:

So if i did go to the 64 bit system I could use more ram if i wanted. also would the vid card recomendation be the same.

A 32-bit operating system is limited to around 3.5gb of ram, a 64-bit os can go anywhere above that. You really dont need anything higher than 4gb of ram unless your using heavy photoshop work or programs of that sort.

My video card suggestions would remain the same.

so the 32 to 64 change wont help anyway.

You probably wouldn't notice the difference in gaming or normal use, but if you ever wanted to upgrade to more than 4gb then you would need a 64-bit os.
