At my office they we're throwing away OLD OLD cumputers. (intel pentuim II!!) so i went to my boss (i'm a summer worker) and asked him if i could take some of the coolers from them old old computer. He said "yeah that's ok"
So what i got for free was
1 Pentium II GIANT cpu cooler
A stack of CPU fans (very small)
2x Case fans
So here is what i did:
1st of i glued the big Pentium II cooler (not a fan) onto my HDD
2nd i glued a big Chassi fan onto my chassi directed to blow onto my MOBO
3rd i glued a small cpu fan onto my MOBO cooling system
So no screws!
here is the results
MOBO before: 65C at stresstesting and 40C at Idle
HDD Before: 38idle 38 stress
Cpu: Same (51/19)
Chassi Before: 31c idle and stressing
(stressing)
MOBO after: Hotter :S
HDD after: Here is the big thing! 27C! 11C cooler!
Cpu: 1C hotter on both specs
Chassi: 29 idle and stressing
Hah, that's funny. I do crap like that on my spare computers, but prefer to buy good fans and stuff for my main system. Anyway the motherboard probably got hotter because you disrupted the air flow to its heatsink. Put one of the small fans on the north bridge heat sink if you can, and the south bridge if you have one.

yeah, sometimes adding fans without thought to airflow can increase temps in weird places.
on a different note: imagine a case where the left side of the case is a MASSIVE 350mm fan sucking air in, and hte right side is a 350mm fan blowing that air out. awesome
the right side BEHIND the MOBO that stops all airflow? Better to have one blowing in in the front and one out in the back combined with one in at the left with a out at the top. That's complete airflow since the MOBO steers the air in all different directions except trough it
and my mobo is 55 instead of 65, drilled some holes in my case and put in another in fan. Was planning to set one blowing out aswell but it sounded like a vacuum cleaner x4
