I'm looking to upgrade my current video card (currently running HD 2400) and I really like the HD 4870's specs, my only concern is the power supply recommended is 500W minimum. I'm currently running at 450W. Another issue is the 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors, but I know I can run those with a couple of conversion cables from some Molex connectors. My question is: can I run the HD 4870 with my current PS or am I looking at a power supply upgrade as well if I go with that card?

My 2nd choice would be the HD 4850, which would work with my current power supply, and only requires 1 6 Pin connector. I'm just wondering what the performance difference is between the 2 cards.

I typically only play EverQuest 2, and Half Life 2, so I'm looking for something to get the best experience out of those games.

The rest of my rig is: Duo Core 2.4 (OC to 3117), 4 Gig RAM

what is the make and model of your PSU? If it has enough amps on the 12v it should be ok.

It's a ChiefMax 450W ATX Switching Power Supply. With the right conversion cables to convert 4 Molex connectors, would this power supply be enough to run the HD4870?
