My first guess would be the power supply but i've never seen a power supply die like this before. I was in the middle of working when all of a sudden the computer died. I tried to reboot and i hear the PS fan start, hard drive light will light up but no hard drive tick and dvd checks itself. After all that, nothing. No fans, no MB light, no vid card so no monitor boot out of it's standby. If any of this sounds familiar or you could throw some much needed knowledge my way, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you can borrow a ps from another system, try that first. If not, check newegg, ebay or computer geeks for motherboard and ps pricing, and decide if they are worth replacing. If you can find a board with the same chipset, you may avoid a format, depending on which operating system you have.

Try reseating the CPU or another video card.
