I'm currently running a Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card and while it sounds pretty good, I'm wondering if I should upgrade to something less gimmicky and aimed at gamers and on towards something more audiophile-oriented. I've done some research and it seems like my AC-1 was built around the Audigy 2 era (I replaced my Audigy 2 ZS with it), the X-Fi cards sound noticeably better than the Audigy 2 series, and the card I was looking at upgrading to (Asus Xonar D2X) is another noticeable increase in sound quality.

Currently I'm running the Logitech Z-5500's via the 6 Ch Direct analog connections into my AC-1, though I could easily get a coaxial cable to hook them to the Asus Xonar D2X if that would sound better (guessing not, but I'm not entirely sure). I try to EAC rip all my CDs onto my computer as well, so I'm not dealing with 192kbps MP3s or <$75 speakers.

Basically I'm just asking if I'll notice an improvement in games, movies and music if I upgrade to the D2X?
