AVG AntiVirus or AVAST?

I deleted cookies, history and, temp enternet files on my computor. now when I click control panel I get an error orrured while windows was working with control panel file . I am still able to continue with my work how can I prevent this message?

Both AVG and AVAST are good antivirus applications.. Preference should depend mostly on installed system hardware since AVG's system requirements double those of AVAST.
