I am buying the sapphire radeon 4870 vapor-x 1gb video card, and I was looking at ATI's website when I noticed some fine print. At the bottom of the geforce products page I noticed it said something like 'blu-ray disc player required'. I don't have one of those, nor the budget, and I just needed to verify; do I need a blu-ray player to run the video card

Of course not. You only need a blue ray player to play blue ray movies from a disk. I'm sure that is the context of the fine print.

Unfortunately, we need fien print like that as people will buy the card and see that it supports blue ray playback and get mad when they find out that is only the case if they have the bd drive.

I think its about the ATI cards suporting bluray playback and the box stating you do need an actual player to play bluray discs. So we dont end up with some idiot like the one that turned his autodrive on in his RV and went back to make coffee whilst on the freeway.
