Hey everyone,

I modded my Wifi card's antennas following the instructions here:

http://www.instructables.com/id/WIFI-Antenna-Hack!/

However, I made my antennas a few inches longer and I didnt solder the wires together.

I havent noticed any significant difference in connection strength, for good or bad.

Do you think it is a MUST that the wires be soldered to achieve a better range?

I think most of these types of mod are self delusion. If the maker could install a better antenna they would have. More complex external add-ons invariably rely on sacrificing multi-directionality for gain.

A better way may be to look for independent firmware for a router which may allow you to turn up the gain on the wireless section -- this is sometimes limited deliberately to conform to international standards.
