is there a quick and easy way to test a PSU without unplugging my all the wires from old PSU and pluggin in the new PSU ?

it could be a couple more weeks before i start getting the rest of my parts, and would like to test the PSU to make sure it works =P

Well a volt meter works......try the paperclip trick to turn it on.

I usually connect some fans to the molex cables just to have some load on the thing and an immediate visual indicator.

could i just plug the motherboard connector into the mobo, then just test the fans on the molex, etc ?

Unless someone did some heavy modifications they ( black wires ) are all grounds.

Black= Ground
Red = 5
Yellow = 12
Orange = 3.3

Testing the psu with no load, while testing, will not ensure everything is working 100% right(since its under load that a psu can fail). but its a good start and you will know its not fully DOA.

ok, that i didnt know (i'm no electrical engineer haha). but ya, just wanted to test to make sure it isnt a full doa

IIRC....for 3 speed fans

Yellow to Black = 12v
Red to Black = 5v
Yellow to Red = 7v
