so i got the PSU, Corsair 850WTX.

I didn't have any other parts yet, but I wanted to test out the PSU to make sure it worked.

I went to plug it in to my current motherboard (DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR with AMD X2 4400). But it seems the connector is "too big", and cannot plug in to the motherboard.

I put up the connector to my old PSU mobo connector, and it seems that from pin column 5 (starting from opposite side of the +4pin connector) , it starts getting slightly wider.

is my motherboard too old to have this PSU fit correctly? or is it bad maybe and need to return/RMA it (bought from newegg). The mobo I am getting is the ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX if that helps?

The nF4 motherboard should fit fine with a standard ATX PSU.

The ATX PSU ATX Mobo relationship is years old. It may be a 20 pin, but it would seem you have the 20 pin + 4 pin.

Seriously, check if your putting it in the right way, it sounds patronising, but its the only explanation I have at the moment for you.

If you could give me more info it would be great.

As far as the new Motherboard, its a standard ATX mobo with a 24pin connector.

Try to see if the 24 pin ATX connector can be separated to a 20 pin and 4 pin connector. It can beSpecifications

yeah, i tried pushing it in, but was then afraid of breaking the mobo. i am pretty sure i was putting it in the right way, but i will try again today when i get home. i didnt think to try it the other way around, backwards, but i was putting it in with the clip facing out, just like my current PSU connector

i made up a quick diagram of what i am seeing:

http://whiteazn.com/ricebox/psuconnector.png

from pins 11-20, they are slightly spaced farther apart (from pins 10 and 11, rows 5 and 6)
