So recently I put together this little thing.
i7 920
HAF 932
EVGA 3x SLI
OCZ 1600 6GB
Corsair 850
Cooler Master V8

At Stock My Idle Temps Are:
Core 0 -41
Core 1 -34
Core 2 -40
Core 3 -35

At Stock My Load Temps Are:
Core 0 -64
Core 1 -59
Core 2 -61
Core 3 -56

The CPU fan is set to manual at 100%
I have reseated the sink 3 times already using different spreading methods and am getting similar temps. I am using Artic Silver 5

Any clue what is going on, or should I consider this normal.

This is normal. At stock, temps differ very slightly.

Overclock this baby to 3.4ghz +, mount both Heatsinks and test the difference.

Intel Stock will be 90+
V8 will be 70 or below.

There are so many different variables that go into your temps. I remounted my scythe mugen about 4 times, which requires full removal of the motherboard, and got only a 5 degree C difference max.

I then went ahead and picked up some stronger case fans and everything dropped 10 C from there. You really aren't that far off from normal. Maybe your V8 is not the problem.

I would LOVE to have those temps on my Xeon, so consider yourself lucky that temps are that low on a much stronger CPU!

I got it to 3.35 right now without too much effort.

IDLE

CORE 0- 43
CORE 1- 36
CORE 2- 44
CORE 3 -37

LOAD

CORE 0- 68
CORE 1- 63
CORE 2- 65
CORE 3- 61

I'm happy with 3.35 right now, maybe when I find time I will try to push it further, but for now its good. I feel like I'm getting my money's worth considering I picked up the processor for $200 at Micro-center.
