Hi, can anyone tell what percentage of processor die area is covered by memory controller and cache controller.

Depends on the CPU. Core i7, Core i5 and Phenom II are different each.

Average, the IMC probably takes maybe 10-15%. The Cache and Core logic take the most.

that sounds like a homework question

Hi, thanks. Can you provide some substantial information and point to some documentary evidences (For Core i7 and Core i5 both).

Here's a die shot. Start measuring:

Bloomfield (LGA 1366 i7):

Lynnfield (LGA 1156 i7 and i5):

Hi, guys thanks a lot. One more thing, I am looking for this information for Intel Core 2 Duo also.

I mean to say for Caches and Cache Controllers.

Oh then thats different. Cache itself is a large part of the chip as seen in the pictures above. Core 2 Duo is here:

The cache again is on the bottom and takes up a large part of the CPU, looks to be near 30%+.

Yes, but the cache controller is pretty small.

Here's a Yorkfield (45nm Core 2 Quad) die:

It has more cache per core than the core 2 duo above, which is a reduced-cache model.
